Imagine your child wakes up with a sore throat… or gets a tummy ache after dinner.
You walk over to your kitchen cabinet—not for a pill or sugary syrup—but for nature’s medicine: herbs.
As conscious parents, we want to raise strong, healthy, emotionally grounded children—without depending on antibiotics or synthetic fixes every time something goes wrong.
In our home, herbs aren’t just remedies—they’re a part of our everyday life. They live in our garden, our teapots, and our family stories.
Let me share one of those stories with you.
The Day Everything Changed
It was winter, 2019. We were living on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, running a stall at the local farmers market. Every weekend, we served handcrafted herbal tea blends and sold our yoga wear to the community.
The market was buzzing that day, and our daughter Nyah was playing happily behind the stall with her little friends.
Suddenly, we heard a loud thud—followed by a heart-wrenching cry.
She had fallen off the roof of our van, straight onto the open rear door, crushing her shoulder.
I rushed to her. Her arm hung limp, and she was in terrible pain. I could feel that this wasn’t a simple bump—it was something more serious.
Everyone around told us, "Take her to the hospital! Get a scan!" But deep inside, I felt something different. As someone raised with Ayurveda—and having personally healed bone injuries with herbal oils and massage—I knew what to do.
I calmed her down with gentle breathwork and gave her a cool sip of her favorite iced herbal tea. Then we packed up, went home, and I began her care using herbal poultices, oils, and daily massage.
No antibiotics. No painkillers. No scans. Just faith, presence, and plant medicine.
By week two, her inflammation was gone. By week three, she was using her arm again like nothing had happened.
Why I’m Sharing This With You
Because I know many parents feel helpless when their child is in pain—and often turn to pharmaceutical options out of fear, habit, or lack of alternatives.
But when we rely solely on external solutions, we disconnect from our innate power to heal.
We condition our children to believe that healing comes from a pill—not from within.
That’s why I created this list of 7 essential herbs every conscious, wellness-loving household should have—along with a Plant Medicine Starter Course to help you feel empowered in using them safely and confidently.
Let’s dive in.
1. Tulsi (Holy Basil)
Best for: Colds, anxiety, family stress, immune support
Tulsi is India’s sacred adaptogen. It helps the body adapt to stress, strengthens the lungs, supports digestion, and brings emotional balance.
🌱 Use it: Brew as a daily tea or add a few drops of Tulsi tincture to warm water.
💫 Fun fact: Known as the “Queen of Herbs,” Tulsi is believed to bring peace and abundance into the home.
2. Chamomile
Best for: Sleep troubles, teething, colic, emotional meltdowns
Soothing for little tummies and even bigger emotions, chamomile is gentle enough for babies and incredibly grounding.
🌱 Use it: Make a mild tea for toddlers or use chamomile-infused oil for baby massage.
💫 Sacred history: In ancient Egypt, Chamomile was linked to the Sun God Ra—representing light, joy, and divine healing.
3. Ginger
Best for: Nausea, colds, digestive sluggishness
Warming and energizing, ginger is our go-to for sore throats, tummy aches, and winter bugs.
🌱 Use it: Brew with lemon and honey. Or infuse in ghee and give small doses to kids.
💫 Did you know? Ginger has been traded across continents for centuries—and was once considered more valuable than gold.
4. Turmeric
Best for: Inflammation, immunity, wound healing
This golden root is nature’s antiseptic and a deep immune nourisher. Great for both internal healing and external wounds.
🌱 Use it: Add to food, make turmeric infusions, or apply as a paste to cuts and bruises.
💫 Deeper meaning: Turmeric represents purification, protection, and prosperity in many spiritual traditions.
5. Fennel Seeds
Best for: Bloating, gas, infant colic
Sweet and gentle, fennel supports smooth digestion and relaxes the muscles of the gut.
🌱 Use it: Make fennel water for babies or brew a tea after meals.
💫 Traditionally used for: Protection, cleansing, and renewal rituals across cultures.
6. Aloe Vera
Best for: Burns, rashes, constipation, gut lining
Aloe is deeply cooling and hydrating. It helps soothe the skin and supports gut healing.
🌱 Use it: Apply fresh gel on burns or take 1–2 tsp internally in juice (for adults or older children).
💫 Ancient belief: The Egyptians called it the “Plant of Immortality”—for beauty, longevity, and healing.
7. Moringa Leaves (Drumstick Tree)
Best for: Energy, nutrition, lactation, immunity
Packed with iron, calcium, and antioxidants—this “Miracle Tree” is a complete tonic for tired mamas and growing kids. One of the few plant sources that provides all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein.
🌱 Use it: Add a little moringa powder to soup, or smoothies. Start with a pinch for children. Use the ‘drumstick’ fruit in curries, this is considered almost a staple in South India with it being used in sambar served with rice almost daily for most families!
💫 Why we love it: Moringa is considered a sacred tree in many cultures—used for food, healing, and fertility.
