Eight years ago I was in a constant battle with my body. I was not aware of my bodies’ divine healing potential and I suffered from severe digestive issues and other disease like PCOS, fibroids, depression, anxiety etc.
I reached the point of hospitalisation and finally realised there must be a better way. Over these years I would uncover the keys to long-term sustainable wellness. And I am so very blessed to now be in a place to share all of this with you!
Early on my mission for self-governed health and wellbeing I realised that gut health is the foundation for true and lasting health.
When our digestion is compromised, it directly impacts our overall well-being. Poor digestion leaves us feeling sluggish and depleted, as our body expends more energy on simply breaking down and absorbing nutrients from our food.
This lack of energy will eventually have a cascading effect, leading to mental and emotional baggage that further disrupts our digestive process. It becomes a mirror effect, with poor digestion causing mental and emotional issues, and vice versa.
By prioritising and optimising our digestion, we can free up energy for more health, strength, and vitality. Slow, painful, or laboured digestion is not a normal or healthy state. Ideally, we should aim for at least three bowel movements per day if we are consuming three meals a day. Taking care of our gut health is essential for unlocking our true potential and living a vibrant, thriving life.
So how can I improve my gut health and digestion?
Let’s first have an understanding about the gut microbiome.
The gut microbiome is a fascinating ecosystem of microorganisms that resides in the gastrointestinal system. It consists of diverse bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other living organisms. These tiny inhabitants have a profound impact on our overall health and well-being.
Interestingly, the bacteria in the gut microbiome can influence our cravings. When we consistently consume processed sugary foods, these bacteria thrive and can send signals to our brain, leading to cravings for more of the same. However, by restoring balance in the gut microbiome, we can break free from these cravings. One way to achieve this is through detoxification.
By eliminating toxins, reducing harmful bacteria, worms and parasites, and promoting the growth of beneficial/healthy bacteria, we create a healthier environment inside our gut. Incorporating practices like fasting and detoxing can help restore the balance in the gut microbiome, leading to improved digestion, increased energy, and a greater sense of lasting vitality!
