🌿 Why Do We Rush to Overcome Challenges? Embracing the Cosmic Truth of Struggles & Growth

Instead of resisting life’s difficulties, what if we embraced them as cosmic gifts? Discover why challenges are not obstacles but powerful catalysts for transformation, guiding us toward deeper wisdom

Introduction: Why Do We Resist Life’s Challenges?

Have you ever faced a moment so difficult that you just wanted to escape? Maybe it was a financial crisis, a health issue, a breakup, or a time when you felt utterly lost. In those moments, most of us instinctively try to "get over it" as quickly as possible.

We turn to distractions—movies, social media, shopping, emotional eating, or mindless scrolling—anything to make ourselves feel comfortable again. Society teaches us that discomfort is a problem that needs an instant fix.

But what if I told you that challenges are not obstacles? What if they are, in fact, cosmic gifts—perfectly placed in our lives to help us evolve into the highest version of ourselves?

If we stop running, sit with our struggles, and truly understand them, we can unlock a deeper connection with life’s natural rhythm. Because growth never happens in comfort.

The Human Tendency to Escape Discomfort

Our minds are wired to seek comfort. It’s part of human nature. When we face pain or difficulty, our immediate reaction is to run away or find a quick solution.

Think about it:

  • When we feel sad, we binge-watch Netflix.

  • When we’re stressed, we scroll through social media mindlessly.

  • When we feel lonely, we look for external validation.

  • When we face health issues, we want a quick-fix pill instead of addressing the root cause.

The world we live in normalizes avoidance. Everywhere we turn, there’s an advertisement selling us comfort: a vacation, a new product, an easy solution. The idea of sitting with our pain instead of running from it is almost unheard of.

But here’s the truth: Pain doesn’t disappear when you ignore it—it only waits for you. The same lessons will keep coming back in different forms until you finally face them.

The Cosmic Intelligence Behind Challenges

Look at nature—it holds profound wisdom about struggle and growth.

Imagine a simple blade of grass. It wants to stay green, lush, and alive all the time. But when the dry season comes, it turns brown, withers, and appears lifeless. Yet, the dry season is not a punishment—it is a necessary pause before renewal. When the rains return, the grass flourishes even stronger than before.

Now, imagine if it rained all the time. The grass wouldn’t survive. The balance of struggle and ease is what allows growth to happen.

The universe follows this same rhythm. There are cycles of expansion and contraction, moments of flow and struggle. Even the cosmos itself expands and contracts in perfect balance.

So why do we, as humans, believe that life should always be easy?

The hardest moments in life are not there to punish us—they are there to shape us. When we accept this truth, we stop seeing struggles as problems and start seeing them as teachers.

Why Challenges Are Our Greatest Teachers

If we look at ancient wisdom, we see this truth repeated across spiritual traditions:

  • The Bhagavad Gita teaches that struggle is part of the battlefield of inner growth.

  • Zen Buddhism emphasizes sitting with pain instead of escaping it.

  • Taoism reminds us that both ease and struggle are part of the dance of life—yin and yang.

I’ve experienced this firsthand.

When I was about six or seven, I broke my elbow while playing with my friends. My entire right arm was paralyzed for two years. My family and doctors slowly began to accept that I might never regain full use of my arm.

But then, something unexpected happened.

I started learning the piano as a form of therapy—not expecting much, just as an activity to keep my hand moving. Within a year, I started to regain feeling. Within two years, I had full mobility again.

And not only did I regain my arm—I gained music.

If I had a choice, I wouldn’t have wanted that injury. But looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. That challenge taught me patience, resilience, and the beauty of unexpected gifts.

This is what struggles do. They break us open so that something new can emerge.

Shifting from Avoidance to Embracing Challenges

So, how do we stop running? How do we face life’s difficulties with wisdom instead of fear?

Here are four powerful mindset shifts that can help:

1️⃣ Cultivate Patience Without Expectation

Growth doesn’t happen overnight. Just like a seed takes time to sprout, our challenges take time to reveal their purpose. Trust the timing of your life.

2️⃣ Find Contentment in the Present Moment

Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” ask, “What is this teaching me?” Every challenge holds a lesson—but you can only see it when you stop resisting.

3️⃣ Replace Impulses with Conscious Stillness

Before reacting, take a deep breath. Instead of reaching for distractions, sit with your emotions. Observe them. You don’t have to fight them—just let them be.

4️⃣ Trust the Intelligence of the Universe

Think about it—you don’t force your breath. You don’t control your heartbeat. The same intelligence that makes your heart beat is the same intelligence guiding your life. Surrender to it.

Conclusion: Your Struggles Are Your Greatest Spiritual Allies

Your struggles are not your enemy. They are the cosmic force shaping you into your highest self.

The moment you stop avoiding discomfort and start embracing it with trust, everything shifts. Life stops being something that happens to you and becomes something that happens for you.

So, the next time you face a challenge, don’t ask, “How do I escape this?” Instead, ask, “How can this help me grow?”

Because the moment you embrace your struggles, you align with the true rhythm of life. And that’s when real transformation begins.
